Why Gaming Provider Is Focused On Unbanked Teen Market

Posted on Feb 06, 2012

Xsolla, a payments service provider specializing in games, is partnering with ZipZap, an alternative payments company.

The partnership allows Xsolla to reach more teens and other gamers who don't have access to traditional banking services or just prefer to pay with cash. This is a large and untapped market, Xsolla officials say.

ZipZap enables gamers to buy virtual currency through its cash payment network that includes more than 700,000 locations worldwide, including banks, grocery stores, post offices, kiosks and convenience stores.

We are very excited to partner with Xsolla, which is growing rapidly due to their knowledge and expertise in online and mobile game payments, said Alan Safahi, founder and CEO of ZipZap. They provide payment solutions to game publishers all over the globe, and we firmly believe that they are the right company to partner with for the online gaming industry.

While this may seem like a niche market, Xsolla boasts more than 250 payment options to gaming publishers worldwide. And at least 50 percent of gamers, especially teenagers, don't have a credit card or bank account.

Xsolla is unique in that it is the only payment solutions company that specializes in the gaming industry, according to a press release at PR Web.

Xsolla's goal is to add payment options that will help gaming publishers to offer their virtual goods to all gamers, said Albert Donahue, vice president and co-founder of Xsolla. Partnering with ZipZap will expand monetization options for the online gaming industry.
